MTA Controlling Blasting For 72nd St. 2nd Ave. Subway Station

I am pleased to announce that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has agreed to limit the hours of the controlled blasting work for the East 72nd Street station construction to between 7:00am and 7:00pm.

In response to ongoing discussions of my office’s Second Avenue Subway Construction Advisory Committee – a coalition of area residents, agency officials, community board members and elected officials - about the increasingly disruptive nature of the late-night blasting, the MTA has made arrangements with the project contractors SSK to implement steps that will halt controlled blasting work after 7:00pm.  Thanks to the MTA’s responsiveness to the needs of the surrounding community and the advocacy of all your elected officials - Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, State Senator Liz Krueger, Assemblymember Micah Kellner, and Councilmembers Dan Garodnick and Jessica Lappin - residents in and around the 72nd Street station construction site will soon enjoy a measure of relief from the late-night noise and vibrations resulting from the underground blasting.
